The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) has finalized a high-value sponsorship agreement with Google's Gemini AI platform, valued at Rs 270 crore, ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. The partnership underscores the growing appeal of India's premier T20 league among global technology companies.
"The deal is structured for three years and strengthens IPL's standing as a world-class sporting event," confirmed a BCCI official in a statement to PTI.
This latest development follows the BCCI's search for a new jersey sponsor last year, after the Indian government restricted real money gaming platforms. Apollo Tyres subsequently assumed the jersey sponsorship role, securing the rights for Rs 579 crore, replacing Dream11 in the position.
The Tata Group continues to hold the primary title sponsorship rights for the IPL, recognized as the world's foremost T20 competition.
The Gemini partnership reflects the increasing investment by artificial intelligence companies in Indian cricket. Notably, ChatGPT, Gemini's competitor, serves as a sponsor for the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL).
During the announcement of ChatGPT's WPL sponsorship in November, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia highlighted the significance of such collaborations: "From global leaders in AI, manufacturing and beverages to trusted Indian consumer brands, this partnership mix will play a critical role in shaping the fan experience and supporting the growth of women's cricket."
The IPL 2026 season will run from March 26 to May 31.
